Neurotoxin injections remain one of the most popular cosmetic treatments because they deliver dramatic, yet natural-looking results by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles. At Saratoga Family Medicine in Ballston Spa, NY, we offer both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® to help you look refreshed, smooth, and confident.

Neurotoxin Injections Q&A

How do neurotoxin injections work?

Your face has 43 muscles responsible for expressions like smiling, frowning, and squinting. Over time, repeated movement combined with reduced skin elasticity leads to visible wrinkles and lines. Neurotoxins such as BOTOX® and Dysport® work by gently blocking nerve signals so the targeted muscles relax. This softens dynamic lines such as:

  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Forehead creases
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

What to expect during treatment

Treatment is quick and virtually painless—most sessions take only 10–15 minutes. Your provider will make a series of small injections to the treatment area while you sit comfortably reclined. Many patients describe the sensation as a tiny pinch, similar to a mosquito bite. If needed, a topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand. You can immediately return to work or your usual activities afterward.

When will I see results?

Most patients notice results within 2–4 days, with full results typically visible at 7–10 days. Results last on average 3–6 months, and regular treatments two to four times per year help maintain a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Safety & considerations

When performed by a trained medical professional, BOTOX® and Dysport® are considered very safe for healthy adults. Mild redness or tenderness at the injection site may occur but usually resolves quickly. Neurotoxin injections are not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing, or for individuals with certain neurological conditions.
